Jenkinson: independent court needed for drone strikes

The US has a long history of assassinating its enemies, even when the targets are Americans.

Clay Jenkinson is the Theodore Roosevelt Center scholar at Dickinson State University, Distinguished Scholar of the Humanities at Bismarck State College and director of the Dakota Institute. His radio show, The Thomas Jefferson Hour® can be heard Sundays on KRCC, Radio Colorado College.

He writes a weekly column in the Bismarck Tribune. From today's piece:
If George W. Bush or Dick Cheney were ordering these strikes, the outcry — at home and abroad — would be deafening. The president should be required by law to get specific authorization for such a strike from an independent court, like the Foreign Intelligence Surveillance Court that determine which foreigners may be surveilled within the United States.
And after every such execution, even it was specifically authorized, an independent review panel should evaluate the president’s actions to determine if the termination was justified. In addition to all of that, a carefully selected congressional committee should review every summary execution of American citizens or, for that matter, foreign nationals who are assassinated away from actual battle sites.
Jenkinson as President Jefferson could answer a question from this interested party on today's radio show:
Larry,
I shall share with His Eminence and we will see how forthcoming he is on the subject. Thanks for listening, and writing!

Schoenbeck, Lederman bend over for bishops, updated

Abused altar boy, Brookings-based Kochsucker and earth hater, Pat Powers laments that Democrats support their candidates.

Now he is continuing his assault on State Senator Stan Adelstein.

Former legislator, pious Catholic, and one of the richest men in South Dakota, Lee Schoenbeck confessed in the online edition of South Dakota Magazine:
Through the sponsorship of organizations like Avera, Tessier’s and Muth Electric, the hunter’s registration fees and proceeds of the banquet auction, the Bishop’s Hunt generates funds. Initially the funds went to the support of the Catholic elementary school in Huron, and later the general mission of the Catholic Foundation. More recently, the funds have had a more focused purpose.
Mary Garrigan revealed in the Rapid City Journal that the Church of the Holy Roman Kiddie Diddlers, Rapid City Branch, greased the anti-civil rights movement in Minnesota with a thousand simoleons:
Bishop Robert Gruss said Wednesday that the donation was made at his discretion after it was requested by Minnesota bishops. "Sometimes it takes money to stand up for worthy causes," he said.
Separation of church and state is just so bothersome in the chemical toilet, especially when litigation hurts donations.

Comes this from a piece by Michelle R. Smith and Nicole Winfield published in The State:
Newly unsealed documents in a lawsuit brought against the Roman Catholic order Legion of Christ show the group's former second-in-command testified he discovered the order's founder, the late Rev. Marcial Maciel, had fathered a daughter in 2006, but never confronted him about his double life and didn't share the news with the group's broader membership. The scandal, which tarnished the legacy of Pope John Paul II, has been cited as an especially egregious example of how the Vatican ignored decades of reports about sexually abusive priests because church leaders put the interests of the institution above those of the victims.
The Church of the Holy Roman Kiddie Diddlers is part of the dark money donors driving the Koch and ALEC-greased earth hater party's candidates.

The GOP tourism secretary in the chemical toilet analogous to that dying state wants President Obama to visit.

Thune-bag to visit Spearditch Tuesday; cougar killer named

Wow, the drain-circling earth hater party clearly doesn't want to run against Senator Tim Johnson, does it?

If Representative Stephanie Herseth Sandlin is going to be a candidate again it would have to be against the current US House member so she regains credibility with her base: she'd only have to hold it long enough to run against South Dakota's junior senator who will be vulnerable as the national GOP collapses.

If Brendan Johnson could bear to live in Pierre he would make a great governor.

Here is the name and number of the asshole who used dogs to slaughter a treed cougar in South Dakota's Disneyland: Justin Deutsch, (605) 493-6598

Tired of waiting for the Yellowstone supervolcano to purge the old, white Repuglicans from the Missouri River Basin? Please join me in praying for a meteor strike on Spearditch:
Acts 1:20 "For," said Peter, "it is written in the book of Psalms, "'May his place be deserted; let there be no one to dwell in it,' and, "'May another take his place of leadership.'

Ready for the State of Navajo?

Imagine a blogger's jaw hitting a keyboard.

Nathan Lefthand is an enrolled member of the Navajo Nation. He wrote this and more at Indian Country Today:
It is constitutional to create a new state out of an existing state(s), in this case, Arizona, Utah and New Mexico, with the approval of those state legislatures and of Congress. The process for carving out a new state is outlined in Article IV, Section 3 of the Constitution. One rider, one act of Congress, can change it all, and believe me, looking at a few of our borders; it’s getting crowded, “out there." We need to be the fifty-first state in the United States of America. The State of Navajo.
Yes, Mr. Lefthand: there is a Santa Clause.

Oh yeah, from yesterday's segment on World Radio Day, Talk of the Nation host Neal Conan read aloud some listeners' most vivid memories:
Larry Kurtz(ph) tweets: Scott Simon announcing the Columbia disaster.
