South Dakota sucks so badly meth looks like a gift from god

All of a sudden we know why Governor Denny Daugaard wants to tap federal money for Medicaid expansion: he has a gun to his head.

Thanks to meth South Dakota's law enforcement industry enjoyed a 22 percent increase in drug arrests last year, the Republicans are out of cash to house inmates and civil forfeiture just isn't paying the bills.
While the Public Safety Improvement Act was not designed to address drug trafficking, we need to consider whether our practices need to adapt to address the growing number of drug-related incarcerations. Just as we all tend to overlook our own shortcomings, some politicians tend to defend their programs at all costs. I have tried to do the opposite. [Daugaard staffer writing in the Rapid City Journal]
Under Denny Daugaard and the SDGOP American College Testing scores in Rapid City are in free fall. Rapid City schools suffer the worst attendance rates in the United States, 2016's ACT scores are below the state average, and the lowest the district has seen in 10 years. All the while the Republican school to prison pipeline is thriving.

A Feeding America survey shows 105,880 people in South Dakota are food insecure. Homelessness in the state is rampant; drunk driving, meth use and teen binge drinking are off the charts.

The state is second in addiction to gambling and teachers' salaries are 51st in the nation. Wage slavery is the state's biggest claim to fame and South Dakota dairies are wreaking habitat havoc. Infrastructure is crumbling and the state's bureaucracy is overbearing and unwieldy. Ag groups want federally subsidized crop insurance and the right to pollute. Corruption and graft are commonplace.

Pollution from industrial agriculture has made waterways poisonous, the state has no modern statute addressing financial assurances for pipeline leaks. Trophy fishing for threatened species is a tourist activity. East River, South Dakota is a dead zone and likely a new repository for nuclear waste.

Racism is endemic and white immigrants have been accepted while displacing and disgracing American Indians. South Dakota wrongly puts thousands in nursing homes. Mass incarceration fuels the white foster home industry: a pet project of the governor's wife.

In South Dakota 302 children are confined per 100,000 kids; that's the highest number in the United States according to Pew.

Habitat destruction, lapses in ethics, crime spikes, increased incarceration rates, more people infected with sexually transmitted diseases, the failure of prisons, human trafficking: all mark the terms of Republican governors in South Dakota.

South Dakota is a sanctuary state for white collar crime, too.

South Dakota has the worst access to healthy food in the United States.

The crony capitalism that keeps South Dakota the 8th worst state for the working class is destroying lands promised to native peoples by treaty and my home town of Elkton is struggling to find enough housing for migrant workers often living in squalor.

South Dakota isn't about growth; it's about keeping Social Security recipients alive long enough to pay the property taxes that sustain red state failure.

Meanwhile, climate change denier Republican Governor Denny Daugaard is presiding over an exodus of educators fleeing the failed red state. He has virtually hand-picked a compliant extremist legislature.

Little wonder South Dakota's junior senator wants to abolish the US Department of Education: it is condemning the state's failure to produce.

Make South Dakota great again. Flush the SDGOP.

Asset forfeiture - let's talk about that. Short while ago I was pulled over by a Rapid City patrolman for speeding. During his road-side interrogation (whatever happened to just writing a damned ticket and getting on with life?) the officer asked me directly if I was carrying a large amount of cash or any drugs.

Really.

I guess my response (burst out laughing) was okay with him because he laughed too. He seemed like a pretty good guy to me, but still - there is this line of thinking going on now that is at the root of causing trouble between LE officers and the public. Policing for profit, the failed war on drugs, a mis-directed judiciary that has set the stage for it all in collusion with politically ambitious prosecutors. We all see the problem clearly but politicians at all levels fail to act.

Just what in the hell gives law enforcement the right to seize cash and other assets from an innocently traveling public? What amount of cash is considered a (large amount)? Banks don't issue travelers checks any more. When we go on vacation we all carry surplus cash to avoid using a credit-card constantly.

I witnessed that Bader creep harassing travelers on I-90. The wrong guy got his ass kicked out beside the highway that day. Should have been the assholes that enabled him - but they're blind to it all.

I've always had a good relationship with cops and know a good many personally. Good cops and bad cops - difficult to understand why they can't weed out the psychologically disturbed element in their ranks. They do shit work and get put in no-win situations. What do we expect?

This policing-for-profit (and incarceration for profit) mind-set needs to go away. Now.

Exactly. Watching Pat Powers and Cory Heidelberger squirming around the truth while avoiding red state failure on parade is not only crazy-making it's moral hazard. During this current nut-scratching meth outbreak Scott Ehrisman posted another Huether hate letter, too.

Stupid state.

I should have posted the news about Dan Island's passing, the Cornerstone Mission being a front for the Bandidos and the meth trade.

"South Dakota do as I say not as I do"

If it were not for my elderly parents I would not set foot in that state again. Make it a point to spend as little money as I can there and fuel that system when I go back to visit them.

Will Family Heritage Alliance bring back and parade Josh Duggar next legislative session? It is no wonder the sex trade thrives in that state along with strip clubs and porno stores. They will thrive even more when they turn that state into what their idea of a Christian Calaphate is.

The hypocrisy of South Dakota's legislature is criminal. Pat Powers touting Marsy's Law while ignoring the cover up of clergy crimes is simply offensive. California Governor Jerry Brown has signed legislation that ends the statute of limitations for rape while Powers' party covers up rapes by clergy. Steve Hickey tried to repeal South Dakota's statute of limitations twice.

I hear some rumbling over at DFP regards your absence . . . other than Bob Newland stopping by to remind Grudz to (SHD) it's painfully sterile there. I haven't seen Bill Fleming engage in quite some time. Not the same.

Corey hasn't yet learned that you fight mean and ugly with mean and ugly-the primary (liberal) weakness. There is a time and place to be an asshole - and no time like the present.

Tally ho

Fuck Cory. I rumble past Fleming's FB periodically to see if he's still alive; Newland seems fine. Thankfully the casita has been keeping my mind off Sodak Dems' failure to thrive. Oh well. Thanks for the satori check, Duff!

South Dakota's District 18 is actively discussing the kurtz cannabis template according to the Yankton Press and Dakotan.

Here in the Land of Enchantment Gary Johnson is doing pretty well in polls, 25% in one. My neighborhood is a solid group of Dems (including under this roof) who thought Governor Johnson was out of touch on most issues. If Clinton stays way ahead in polling here I'm going to show Johnson in a good light on the blog and twitter then vote for him even if it means sleeping in the car for a week or two and being shunned at our Tuesday geezer breakfasts.

I'm proposing similar legislation for New Mexico and Montana because initiated law is too easily overturned by Republicans.

This from the right-leaning Albuquerque Journal: "A majority of New Mexico voters – especially young ones – favor following Colorado’s lead in making marijuana legal for recreational use by adults, according to the latest Journal Poll. Sixty-one percent of likely voters said they would support a proposal to legalize, tax and regulate marijuana for adults 21 and older, while 34 percent said they would oppose it."

I live in SD and everything you say is pretty much accurate. Talk about a third world country (and don't even get me started on Sioux Falls, ugh) with the problems here in the state.

Virtually every symptom and ailment i suffered from disappeared after leaving South Dakota. Thanks for your comment.
