Obama event shines light on rare South Dakota success story

Excitement is building for President Obama's visit to South Dakota. The event is cast to fulfill part of his proposal in the State of the Union address where community colleges and technical institutes be supported by the federal government.
South Dakota Democratic Party Chair Ann Tornberg said her office and Lake Area Technical Institute where Obama will deliver the commencement address May 8 have been bombarded with ticket requests. Each of the state’s technical schools is a treasure, Tornberg said at the Beadle County Democratic Forum on Thursday. She said LATI has promised 748 tickets to the students; each graduate will receive six tickets for family members. [Roger Larsen, Huron Daily Plainsman]
Under GOP tyranny South Dakota has been suffering under low wages, spikes in crime rates and sexually-transmitted diseases and crushing teacher shortages.

South Dakota is the only state unvisited by President Obama and his team says he is determined to visit all fifty states by the end of his term.

The Obama administration continues reaching out to Indian Country and helping communities to organize with education at their cores.
