The Environmental Working Group, which maintains a database of farm subsidies, says the U.S. Department of Agriculture’s newest programs have paid farmers more than $13 billion for lost income due to low crop prices. Market access and crop insurance are higher priorities for the state’s farmers than subsidies, according to South Dakota Corn Growers Executive Director Lisa Richardson.
