South Dakota Democratic Party might as well live in the wilderness

As Rapid City's former mayor and legislator Ed McLaughlin reaches the end of his life it's time to reveal his late wife was sexually assaulted by a Republican member of the South Dakota Legislature. It was told to me by her son.

I started a second blog because I believed the South Dakota Democratic Party was viable.

I was wrong.

Democrats are no longer safe in South Dakota. You should leave while you still can.
The party which sent to the U.S. Senate men such as Tom Daschle, George McGovern, Tim Johnson and Congresswoman Stephanie Herseth Sandlin? With people such as these, we had a large influence on national events for such a small state because we sent great people to represent us. We seldom see a mention of any Democrat running for any office, local of national. Why?Are we Democrats in fear of identifying with a liberal party? Are we in fear of voting for a person that may lose? Are we in fear of winning? What is it we are afraid of? In the shenanigans over the past four years, we have seen crimes committed, lies perpetuated and mass political surrender to a egotist who has no concern for the well-being of this or any state. Republican politicians across this nation have cowered in political fear of standing up for what was best for the nation, putting political career above national needs. A patient I saw the other day had no furniture in his apartment. The only places he had to sit was the kitchen counter, the floor, or the toilet. Being a volunteer with St. Vincent DePaul I have seen this before..

I love South Dakota, but I can understand why young people want to leave it so desperately. Youth are constantly discredited, discouraged, and disrespected in this state. Why would a young progressive stay in a state that hates them?

No. We are not. I know that's popular to say, "we are better than this". Many of us are, certainly. But, people KNOW what Trump is, and they support him. Thune, Rounds KNOW what he is, and they support him. SD voters KNOW what Rounds, Thune, Trump are, and they support them.

Wild Horses of Red Rock

After consulting with the Horse Shelter and an equine veterinarian Donnamarie and Larry have decided that the best way to protect ten free-roaming horses is to keep them in their care. Forage is scarce and the only water available is from wells on their property so the four mares that will foal very soon will be safe, well cared for and as wild as possible. About fifteen acres is fenced with horse-safe wire but the gate is always open so the herd can come and go as they please. The couple has been buying hay and so far that is working but the three stallions need to be gelded and that is expensive so we're asking you to pony up to help defray the cost.
