New Deal program puts $16M into South Dakota broadband

Pat Powers is crowing about his cushy life in the Socialist People's Republic of Brookings and bragging about his community-owned broadband.

Fact is, its roots are in the New Deal and strengthened by Rep. Stephanie Herseth Sandlin.
On Nov. 6, the U.S. Department of Agriculture’s Rural Development Office in South Dakota announced that USDA is investing $16 million in an infrastructure project to bring broadband to areas in rural South Dakota. These awards are being financed through USDA’s Telecommunications Program, which has provided financial assistance to more than 500 telecommunications providers nationwide.
