Some Bush torture memos declassified

Surprise!

The SDGOP-owned Department of Ecocide and Natural Ruination has come under the eye of another state enterprise:
A report [pdf] submitted by state officials to the EPA cites 166 lakes and streams in South Dakota as polluted or impaired. The bodies of water fail to meet government standards for clean water. Most of the polluted waters in South Dakota are due to non-point sources such as livestock waste. [Charles Michael Ray, Bill Janklow's idea of public radio]
Here are a few more reasons for young Democrats to vote in the 2014 midterm elections.
Before Wednesday, Rick Weiland was simply the long-shot Democrat running in South Dakota's open Senate race that Republicans are poised to claim. For an attention-starved candidate who's spent much of the campaign warning about the Kochs and Sheldon Adelsons of the world, the McCutcheon decision was teed up perfectly for Weiland. "This is definitely in my wheelhouse," Weiland said. "It's the reason I'm running, and the reason I'm so outraged." [Tom Kludt, South Dakota Dem Is Just Fine With Attention He's Getting For Slavery Comments, TPM]

The Fort Hood shootings are war crimes. The blood is on the hands of don Juan Thune and his fellow Republicans. They are not only earth haters they vote for illegal military adventurism.
In February 2006, State Department adviser Philip Zelikow warned the Bush administration that waterboarding and other torture techniques “would be deemed wanton and unnecessary and would immediately fail to pass muster unless there was a strong state interest in using them. … And they can be barred even if there is a compelling state interest asserted to justify them.” Zelikow’s memo remained secret until 2012. [The Guardian]
A Nobel Peace Prize winner is calling for the prosecution of disgraced former US President Republican George W. Bush and sexed-up former British Prime Minister Tony Blair alleging that a conspiracy based on lies thrust war upon innocents.

From Toby Helm in The Observer:
Archbishop Desmond Tutu has called for Tony Blair and George Bush to be hauled before the international criminal court in The Hague and delivered a damning critique of the physical and moral devastation caused by the Iraq war. Writing in the Observer, Tutu also suggests the controversial US and UK-led action to oust Saddam Hussein in 2003 created the backdrop for the civil war in Syria and a possible wider Middle East conflict involving Iran.
Bush43 has cancelled trips to Switzerland and Canada as the Center for Constitutional Rights and other human rights groups prepared to submit a 2500-page indictment of the former President of US. A publicist for the former Dick-puppet cited concern that the visits could trigger violent protests.

Republicans are beginning to worry about their collusion with the Bush regime after the illegal second war in Iraq.

Larry I'm very curious and concerned about that water quality report. Unfortunately I am unable to open up your link or from the South Dakota Department of Natural Resources. I'd like to kayak the Jim river around Mitchell, SD but saw something from DNR saying that the Jim was advised for limited contact. Is there that much fecal bacteria from livestock and chemicals from agriculture runoff? Supposedly the Asian Carp are in there too now. Might have to wear a helmet with face shield if they start jumping. Lynn G.

Recall Cory's post from 2010, Lynn: my guess is he will follow up with a comprehensive look.

Was just out to the confluence of the Belle and Cheyenne Rivers about a week ago: they always look like hell this time of year.

Meanwhile, Pass Creek is as clear as it ever gets. It helps when there aren't any fields in the watershed this high up anymore. We are already seeing fish, and that would be nearly a full two weeks earlier then normal. I'm sure going to miss this ranch, but not this state.

Larry thank you for the links! I'll be in the state at least one more year. I'll call DENR on Monday and see if they can send me that report and ask a few questions regarding the safety of paddling a few of a few rivers and lakes I'd like to explore. I definitely don't want to put my health at risk due to disease or whatever depending on just how polluted they are.

I might volunteer for the East River Dakota Water watch to help take samples.

Otherwise it amazes me that people along these water bodies either are not aware or don't care how some are affecting one of our most precious resources such as water and what the consequences are.

One more year and I'll see if I leave the state for good this time. Every state has it's issues but I'll do some checking. Lynn G.
