Racism, genocide ongoing in South Dakota

Jim Kent sat down with Elizabeth Cook-Lynn and interviewed her for an initiative creating the First Nations Sculpture Garden.
It was ironic that a “consultation” meeting between the U.S. Forest Service and the leaders of tribes from across the state regarding proposed gold mining in the Black Hills was taking place just a few feet away. Part of the problem in creating the sculpture garden originated with Rapid City’s government and opposition from the city council. If there’s to be any hope for dealing with racism, according to Cook-Lynn, the bottom line is education. And the First Nations Sculpture Garden is a part of that.
