Officials at a South Dakota park named for a war criminal say three donkeys are missing and feared dead after the State of South Dakota caused a wildfire.
Governor Denny Daugaard has asked for and received assurances of federal cash to manage the Legion Lake Fire that began on state-owned land in Custer State Park and has grown to at least 53,875 acres with 80% containment.
Events like these are hardly unexpected in a Republican-choked state that stages an annual mock bison roundup appropriated from indigenous cultures and keeps a drove of allegorical mooching donkeys in the park as a slap in the face to a feckless South Dakota Democratic Party.
