US Senate Democrats want living wage

Seattle is considering $16 after implementing $15 and Washington State is talking $12.
Sen. Patty Murray (D-Wash.), ranking member of the Senate's labor committee, has been reaching out to her Democratic colleagues to rally support for a more ambitious minimum wage proposal, according to a Senate source familiar with the conversations. Murray's idea: hike the federal minimum wage to $12 by 2020, rather than the current $10.10 proposal languishing in Congress. The wage floor would then be tied to an inflation index so that it rose with the cost of living. The minimum wage was at its historical high in the late 1960s, when it equaled roughly $10 in today's dollars. [Dave Jamieson]

Governor Daugaard: take a memo.
When Minnesota Governor Mark Dayton took office in 2011, Minnesota had more than a $6 billion dollar deficit and an unemployment rate of 7%. Today, Minnesota's unemployment rate is now below 4% and they have a budget surplus of over $1.2 billion dollars. Mark Dayton's approach of making people who can afford to pay, pay, helped eliminate the deficit. Raising the minimum wage gave more people money to spend. Businesses like money and they like people who have money to spend. [Walter Einenkel]

  1. Larry,

Sorry I could not find a place to forward this to you on Dakota Progressive but Past abuse reports no longer off-limits for MN child protection. http://www.startribune.com/politics/statelocal/296669371.html
I have a friend from St. Paul and nearly all the kids in her big family including her were severely scarred from the actions of a family friend pedophile who now has a street named after him. He has long been deceased and I'm doubtful this would go back as far as needed but it's a step in the right direction. You can place this comment elsewhere if you wish.
