Polls akin to astragalomancy? Amanita muscaria and flying reindeer

Pollsters are wizards, shamans, diviners. They toss numbers around the way astragalomancers once tossed bones to foretell events to come.

Shape some policy: vote on an ip poll now.

Life is a wacky deal, innit?:
Caution should also be exercised when relating flying reindeer to the effects of the hallucinogenic (actually a deliriant) fly agaric mushroom, or Amanita Muscaria, which was, and presumably still is, consumed during shamanic rituals by the Lapps and some Siberian peoples. The mushroom is the quintessential toadstool, usually bright red with small white spots and has long been depicted in stories and paintings.
Caution, schmaution.

Amanita muscaria is widely distributed in the Black Hills around the 4th of July...watch yer eyes.

  2. John Nichols is one of us. You know that, right, little brother?

NPR is reporting that Gary Johnson has announced as a Libertarian.

Do you have any insider info into whether Ron Paul would run as an Indy if he loses the GOP race?

  3. Dudes - FWIW I watched his (Paul) interview by John Stewart last week; and I'd take him at his word right now. He's not thinking of an indy run cuz he still has his focus on the party bid.

He seems to be attracting some money, but the GOP won't name him. Question then becomes: Will there be a Libertarian primary with Paul/Johnson? Wouldn't that be somethin? The winner would damn-sure throw the '12 election into a spin.

    Cool.

    From the cheap seats . . .

By the way, what the hell is this thread about?

  4. Duff: a good friend of mine worked at what used to be called the Children's Center out by Rockerville some 30 years ago.

He had an autistic client who, on one Christmas opened a present and exclaimed, "Santa Claus, Sani-Flush, Drano!"

    It's always been an inspiration.

  5. Ron Paul needs to address this if he expects to be taken seriously by college-educated voters.

  7. Gotcha . . .

How can a dude like Paul display clarity on some critical issues; and then speak bat-shit craziness on others?

    Buzz kill.

  10. I believe a lot of things will change as the economy crumbles even further. Anon and occupy will begin showing their support to Dr Paul. I dont think that they will let him become the pres. though and her are examples why. President John F. Kennedy signed Executive Order No. 11110 and he was assassinated. President Garfield openly declared that whoever controls the supply of currency would control the business and activities of all the people. After only four months in office, President Garfield was shot at a railroad station on July 2, 1881. President Andrew Jackson declared his disdain for the international bankers:"You are a den of vipers. I intend to rout you out, and by the Eternal God I will rout you out. If the people only understood the rank injustice of our money and banking system, there would be a revolution before morning."There was an (unsuccessful) assassination attempt on President Jackson's life. Jackson had told his vice president, Martin Van Buren, "The bank, Mr. Van Buren, is trying to kill me...." Lincoln fought against the central bank, and some now believe that it was his anticipated success in influencing Congress to limit the life of the Bank of the United States to just the war years that was the motivating factor behind his assassination.

  12. I am less convinced than you are that the economy is "crumbling." The evidence points to the contrary.

The only way for Paul to win the GOP nomination is for Romney to fall completely down as a result of a revelation.

Rep. Paul could collapse on the campaign trail somewhere and you guys would spin the conspiracy theories into cotton candy.
