Native Americans: what would you call your own State?

The history of humanity in the United States of America is at least 14,000 years old, some researchers say it is far older. We the People are at another crossroads: we can allow China to outgrow us or we can grow.

There 2.5 million Native Americans living in the US, more living in Canada, and virtually every native Mexican is a native American as well. Four sets of laws trapped in a quagmire of treaty obligations. If each reservation in the lower contiguous states were a county in a non-contiguous state, the two senators and five representatives would wield great power in Congress. Native readers: what would you call your own State?

Mexico: please consider a referendum that would pave the way to suspend your constitution and become the 52nd State where the Tohono O'odham and Mohawk Nations that currently straddle some surreal boundary would become one county. Two senators and 30+ representatives in Congress would give Mexicans awesome power in Washington, DC and create a geopolitical superpower that will cause China to wake up and smell the Tsingtao.

One day, the Canadian provinces and First Nations will see the new States in a clearer light and vote to join US, too.

I have been listening to KBHU The Buzz while Bill Janklow's idea of public radio has been grovelling. Last night, they played this:

  1. Mexico, no minimum wage, no unions, and no EPA, doesn’t this sound like the GOPs platform for 2012?

With vast natural recourses, kind and gentile people many of whom are artisans in one craft or another, thousands of miles of shoreline, that would only add to our world power, and at present an economy that is doing better then our own. The last, not because of what they are doing but what we in the US are doing.

Think, Copper Canyon, the Sea of Cortez, and the Sierra Madras Mountains. Think shrimp that weigh over a pound, fresh fish of just about any kind, and lobster week where you can see a platter of lobster set in the middle of the table served family style. Think of the longest surf break in the world, cheap fuel, and a bus system that will take a person almost anywhere in the country for just a few pesos. Think of great tasting ice cold beer that cost a quarter a bottle, tequila bars that serve nothing but tequila from a hundred different brands and blends, and fine wine from recognized world class vineyards. Think about sleepy little towns that time has forgotten, and the people that like it that way. Towns that have structures that have been around for over five hundred years that are still being used for the same purpose that they were built. And finialy think about a country where 24 hrs is plenty of time to get whatever they wanted to do that day done. Where an hour last for however long a person wants it to, and a day last an eternity.

I would love to have Mexico as a state but Im not sure that the people that live there would be willing to exchange their way of life for ours.

  3. Why would we have to impose our lifestyle on the Mexicans if they joined the USA?

I would much rather go down there and imbibe some of their lifestyle (minus the violence, of course, but that would go away once our National Guard set up shop, eh?).

Siestas every midday, well, I do that already.

I suspect that the individual states in Mexico would become individual states in the USA (not one big state for the whole country).

  4. Stan, Mexicans want Mexico to stay whole (although I suspect most Anglos feel as you do as I roll it around in my brain, too) imposing a split dooms the concept. An invasion is NOT a solution; the FBI and Justice Department is capable of ending violence through the courts, IMHO.
