The Native Sun News via Indianz.com tells us:
United Urban Warrior Society will conduct a peaceful protest this week at the Civic Center’s presentation of The Wonderful Wizard of Oz. The author of the book, L. Frank Baum is still widely known for the Oz books he wrote in the early 1900s. Little known are the editorials he published in Aberdeen Saturday Review which L. Frank Baum called for the extermination of the Lakota people six days after the Massacre at Wounded Knee in 1890.Hoka hey!
Greetings United Urban Warrior Society members,
ReplyDeleteKeep up the hard work in exposing Frank Baum for what he was. We all know if the tables were turned about this man and his story the book and his name would be banned from the world, period. With this issue as well as the racist Redskins football team name, Cleveland Indians etc. etc. ad nauseum it is clear that American Indians are the only racial group that can be treated this way.
Stay Strong fellow veterans and all the human beings who are fighting to overcome this horrendous situation.
Glen Douglas, Army Inf. 67-71
My aunt collected every Oz book by Baum before she passed...a bunch of them...and many quite rare. Well, she was an antiquarian book dealer, after all. Does the making of profit off the creations of a racist Aberdeenite after his death overcome his poor thought processes in life? I'm worried less about the ex-badguys than the current ones...who seem to be growing in number. And who knows what color the next hate group will choose to wear. All I know, it's obvious gay people won't be designing those outfits...we've become a bit smarter over the years and a whole lot more active. And as for Oz...I recall that just about everything was green there. Gosh, I hope they don't choose green.
