It represents a way of living that is at odds with the current global world, focusing as it does on self-reliance, community self-sufficiency, localisation, independence. The fact that we are using existing global infrastructure to communicate is a transitional means to more quickly hasten the end of “big” culture, be it big corporations, big governments, big industrialisation, big farms, big Macs. It is a preference for small, local, alive solutions.
